Rob recently purchased this Lenham GT. It is an early Mk1 Sprite and may have possibly been used as a developement car for Lenhams, although this has yet to be confirmed.

The car now has a tuned 1275 with a Cooper S head. Rob says " I will use the car to do some historic rallies and from what I have experienced so far ( we drove it home from London to the eastern part of the Netherlands) it can perform well. Most of my interest now is the engine, I am curious who build/tuned it for it goes very well. We have experience with racing spridgeds and even to these standards this is very good prepared engine. Should be 1275 and the rocker cover is a special one that displays HRG engineering Sussex. It has extra studs but does not look an alloy one and no x flow"

Rob has sent some new photos of his Lenham GT coupe, including some taken while competing on the 2009 Tulip Rally. Rob has been in contact with Adrian Currey, whose father Eric restored the GT, registered as 980 YFK in the UK.

Rob visited Adrian during the Summer of 2010. "We had a good time together and a lot to talk about.I was happy to be there with my Land Rover for we left as a bunch of 'gipsies' so many parts did we take with us."

"In 2010 the car went very well on a number of rally’s no problems of any kind  ( approx. 6000km).After this season the clutch was very tired so First thing to do in, in winter storage, was to replace it. As the pressure plate and release bearing where also beyond repair the complete system has been converted to a bigger one from a racing Caterham incuding roller bearing. Also the gearbox has been inspected but needed only 2 bearings and 2 oil seals. The cylinderhead was taken of and valvestems replaced and valves grinded ( we know now that the biggest ones posible were used). All is already put together now and when I made the exhaust it will run again."

Many thanks to Rob for his words and the use of his photographs.
